New Boss

I finally met my new boss today. I was temporarily reporting to the Marketing Manager since May, but now, with the new Sales & Marketing Director on board, I am back to reporting to the Director.

We had a looooooooooong one-to-one talk today, from 3-5pm, just to get to know each other, for him to know what are my responsibilities, what do I think of Wyeth, and what could be improved. What was interesting is that he said that we both think alike! Hmmm... now that's a great start to a new working relationship :)

And I think I kind of understand his management style. Instead of asking me to update him on the latest pending issues or tasks to be completed, he asked me to re-do my JD - job description. He felt that I am not focused enough as a nutritionist, a specialised job. He thinks that I am more of a generalist and doing too many things, like regulatory matters. Shouldn't that be the job of the Medical & Regulatory Affairs Division? Hmmm... what's that got to do with a Nutritionist in the Marketing Department of the Nutrition Division? How interesting, the way he chose to start his job as my boss. And he said he plans to change that, to streamline some of my current responsibilities. Woohooo!

And I do agree with him in many things, like the time I spent on regulatory matters could be invested in the things a Nutritionist can only do, like market intelligence, support for the ethical sales team, improving my training or presentation skills, etc. And on the fact that he is not the type that will breathe down your neck, checking on you every now and then. He said that for a person of my position, I should know what I need to complete and how urgent things are. He believes in entrusting the tasks to me and not monitor me like I'm still under probation. I like that kind of boss. That's would reduce my stress levels by A LOT!

But the best thing is, he is a Christian. Of course, I don't mean that he is Christian, I am Christian, so I will get more favours than non-Christians. No, not like that. I believe that God places His people in positions of influence. And I just somehow know that things will improve a lot for my company. And I'll learn a lot of things from him, since I heard that he is a good boss, someone who is very performance-based.

And I won't compare him with my previous boss in terms of who is better. They both have different styles of managing people and different characters. Why compare? Comparing bosses is like comparing my ex-girlfriend with my current girlfriend (now fiancee). Not to say I treat my boss like a girlfriend, but it's the fact that it is no point in comparing someone you used to have, with someone you have now. The past is the past.

With all that said, I am really looking forward to work under him, not literally "under" him, of course! LOL... and I'll learn as much things as possible, before I say goodbye :)

Have a great weekend, Friends, and thanks for dropping by!

Hi John, this is off subject. I wanted to respond to your comment on my blog. I strongly encourage all of my readers to do their own investigation ... always. While I try to be thorough and provide good information, I am just one person .. and I see my blog as a place to share information and learn. So ... yes please ... investigate away!

I also want to ask you, after you do your own investigation, if you'd like to be a guest author on my site with your findings? If so, send your article to me at:
reducefootprints@gmail.com. I'll provide an introduction with your blog address. I like the way you write so I would be honored if you would write an article for Reduce Footprints.

Take care!
